Thermal Imaging and Energy Audits
Thermal or infrared energy is light that is not visible because its wavelength is too long to be detected by the human eye. It is part of the electro magnetic spectrum that is defined as heat. Infrared thermography cameras produce images of invisible infrared or heat. Infrared thermography cameras produce images of invisible infrared or heat radiation and provide non-contact temperature measurements. The use of an infrared camera enables us to “see” and “measure” thermal energy being emitted from an object forming and image and the temperature of same. It has become an effective and common tool used to inspect and troubleshoot energy and safety issues in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
Thermal imaging is used as a productive maintenance procedure to detect electrical faults in advance of failure. We are able to locate thermal anomalies-abnormal patterns of heat invisible to the eye- that indicate possible failure modes, faults, defects or inefficiencies within a system or material. In commercial buildings, we inspect the entire electrical system – transformers, switchgear, distribution centers, sub-panels and disconnects for loose connections, improperly fitted circuit breakers and overload conditions.”Hotspots” are often detected in the electrical system; electrical outlets, switches, wires or circuits breakers that are malfunctioning, overloaded or compromised in some manner. These are very dangerous since they can lead to a catastrophic fire. One third of all property losses are electrically related.
Frequently commercial businesses and institutions are asked by insurance carriers to conduct an infrared electrical scan inspection under the supervision of a licensed master electrician to assist in risk management.. During an infrared electrical inspection, elevated temperatures are located and reported before an interruption in service, equipment damage, or a possible fire. We inspect circuit breaker panels, concealed wiring, switchgear, and other electrical components. An annual inspection can increase safety and can be used by an insurance company to assess the potential risk of a commercial or institutional building. Should you be asked to conduct an infrared electrical inspection or you desire to use thermal imaging as a preventive measure in West Virginia or Virginia, give InspectRite Services, Inc. a call. We will be glad to discuss your specific requirements. Our thermographer/master electrician will conduct the inspection and submit a valuable report. It may prove to be the most important call this year.
Due diligence inspections are used to determine if there are any major moisture or heat loss problems in walls or roof of a structure. It can be used in existing buildings or during construction to insure quality, energy efficient techniques, lower energy costs, increased structural durability, better air quality and greater comfort. Voids in insulation or wet insulation are quickly detected.
In the event air conditioning/heating flex duct has not been properly sealed or seals are deteriorated, there can be significant leakage at joints in the attic or crawl space. Defective connections at plenums and registers can be detected in an infrared scan. Damaging moisture can lead to moisture problems from condensation.

Was about to buy a new home but wanted to get it inspected before I signed the papers. Got in touch with Roland at Inspectrite. He was very professional and knowledgeable. Real easy to deal with. His inspection seemed really thorough and gave me a detailed report after. His inspection caught a couple issues that would’ve cost me thousands to fix if I’d bought the house. Thanks to Inspectrite for helping me dodge that bullet.
